Can your gall-bladder posion you?

my dad has lost about 150 lbs in a couple years.He has to watch his fat intake and if he eats fatty foods his stomach is upset the next day (diarrhea) he is constantly taking anti diarrhea meds .he has IBS also but my question is if his gal-bladder is not working right can hurt him if not removed?
