How to defrost an auto defrost fridge
If your refrigerator isn't defrosting like it should, you can manually turn the defrost timer to initiate a defrost. They are generally located either underneath the refrigerator behind the front kick plate, or under the freezer (uming its a top mount) in the control panel that would contain your thermostat, light, etc. To find the exact location, go to a web site like www.partselect.com and find the diagram of your refrigerator by entering the model number. The timer shaft should have a slot that can be turned with a screwdriver. Turn it slowly until you hear it click. That will start the defrost cycle. If the refrigerator doesn't go back to chilling after an hour or so, then you can figure that the defrost timer has gone bad. If the refrigerator doesn't defrost at all, then you may have a faulty defrost termination thermostat, or a bad defrost heater. That will be the time to call the appliance guy.
